In a game of runs, #1 Elk River held off #3 STMA to advance to the state tournament tonight. The Knights jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead behind back-to-back 3 pointers by Emma Miller. Piper Carlson scored the next four points for the Knights to extend the lead to 10-4. The Elks answered with a 10-2 run of their own to take a 14-12 lead with 9:03 remaining in the first half. At halftime the Knights trailed 22-28. Kaylie Cox started the scoring in the second half with two free throws. With 10 minutes remaining in game, the Knights had cut the Elks’ lead to 36-37. For the remainder of the game, the deficit range was 9 to 3 points; always in favor of the Elks. Despite one final push from the Knights, led by the defensive pressure and clutch lay-up and free throws by Meriel Orham, the final score was 56-51 in favor of the Elks. Miller led the offensive efforts with 21 points. She also had 3 each of rebounds and steals. Carlson finished with 8 points and 3 rebounds. The Cox sisters combined for 12 points and 8 rebounds. The Hoselton sisters each chipped in 3 points. Lauren Hoselton led the rebounding column with 6. ????????????#embracechange
The hardest part of a season coming to an end is saying goodbye to amazing seniors. This year is no exception. Alycia, Amanda, Erin, Kendal, Meriel, and Chloe – you will be missed. This season was different, no doubt about it. You embraced it with grace and positivity. Despite the changes and restrictions, you showed up every day and gave your best efforts and always had smiles on your faces. You have all had exceptional careers. Thank you for your leadership. Your efforts. And for always being great student-athletes both on and off the court. You have left your mark on STMA GBB.
