STMA Football: Summer 2020 Training Plan
STMA Football Family:
Yesterday, we received word that the Minnesota State HS League pushed back the Summer Waiver Period from June 1st to June 15th. This means that coaches cannot work with athletes, live or virtually, during this time period. The Summer Waiver Period has been extended this year, from August 1st to August 7th, and the blackout (no-contact) week has been shrunk to July 3-5th.
Starting on June 15th, we can resume training in ‘pods’ of 10, with a 9:1 ratio (players to coach). We can have four ‘pods’ on a football field at one time. Athletes that choose to train with us will have to maintain a social distance of 6 feet the entire time and there will be no shared equipment (participants must bring their own water bottle). I do know that our coaches are excited about the opportunity to work with student-athletes again, and to form meaningful relationships that will stretch into our fall season.
We plan to start on June 15th with a 4-day per week ‘Hybrid’ model of training. Football athletes will meet on an STMA HS Field for two days per week for a 2-hour training session. Players will be grouped into position groups (by filling out a Google Form by June 1st) and similar grade levels when possible. These training sessions will include 1-hour of football-specific position drills and 1-hour of speed and agility/lower-body strength drills. Athletes will sign-up through STMA Community Education for a Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs plan, and be given two ‘upper-body’ emphasis workouts to complete at home on the days they don’t report to an STMA HS Field. As an incoming player or parent, if you would like access to this Google Form, please e-mail Coach Essler at firstname.lastname@example.org for the Google Form link.
I hope to offer these 2-hour training sessions with morning and night options to accommodate as many football athletes as possible. For now, plan on an option to train with STMA Coaches on STMA Facilities starting some time on June 15th.
Go Knights! Win the Day!
