Sam Brown is a senior at STMA and is an active participant in the STMA Theater program. She focuses on technical theater dealing with light/sound design, video production, technical leadership, and backstage roles. She has served as a light and sound board operator for multiple shows, as well as the Technical supervisor for productions at STMA. Sam is also an employee of the Performing Arts Center working as the technical liaison for outside groups renting the theater space. She has worked on productions with the SOAR Regional Arts group as well as attending workshops and trainings around the state for technical theater. Sam also has been recognized by her peers being elected to serve on the STMA governance board to lead our theater department. Sam plans to continue her education in theater and hopefully one day work as a theater technician as her profession. STMA Theater is extremely proud of Sam and all she has accomplished and we are so excited that she is a finalist for the Technical Theater Excellence award.
Sam currently is one of five student finalists for this award from Hennepin Theater Trust. Two finalists will travel to New York City for a curated career pathways experience. Any graduating senior who engages in technical theater is eligible for this recognition, regardless of discipline. This experience will provide students with expanded knowledge, tools and connections to further their technical careers. Students who were interested had to submit a portfolio of their theater accomplishments and work.
