The girls basketball team advanced to the 8AAAA Section Championship with a win over Buffalo Friday night. Whitney Dold scored the first five points of the game by converting two on-ball steals to layups and one old-fashioned three point play. After a quick start, scoring was minimal and with 9:57 remaining in the first half, the Knights trailed 8-10. That would be the Bison’s only lead of the night after the Knights went on a 19-9 run to build a 27-19 advantage at halftime. The Knights maintained an 8 to 12 point lead for much of the second half until the Bison made a run and pulled within 4 points with 6 minutes remaining in the game. The Knights built back an 8 point lead before the Bison made one final push to cut the deficit to 56-53 with under a minute left. In the end, the Knights made good on 3 of 4 free throws to win 59-53. Kenzie Kramer led the Knights offensively with 15 points and 8 assists. She also grabbed 5 rebounds. Jadyn Hanson chipped in 10 points. Dold finished with 9 points on 4 of 6 shooting and nabbed 4 steals. Vanessa Alexander led the rebounding efforts with 7 and Riley Carlson grabbed 5. Lily Tennyson came off the bench to score 9 points, including two timely shots from behind the arc to slow the Bison’s runs.
