The STMA girls cross country team opened up their regular season with 3 team titles in the middle school, junior varsity, and varsity races. Running on a brand new 5k course at Bertram Chain of Lakes park, the Knights traversed two loops mixed with gravel trails and grass. Complete results for all races can be found here.
In the junior varsity race, the Lady Knights accumulated a low team score of only 26 points to finish first out of 12 schools, with teams from Becker (100 points) and Annandale (108 points) finishing 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Individually, the Knights piled up 6 runners in the top 12 of the race including Mia Rooker (2nd-22:15), Erin Hamilton (3rd-22:34), Gretchen Manderfeld (5th-22:44), Anna Felt (6th-22:52), Taylor Peterson (10th-23:09),and Belle Nyhus (12th-23:19).
In the last race of the day, the varsity team won the team title out of 13 teams scoring 78 points. They were followed in a close race for 2nd by Becker (102 points), Monticello (110), and Rocori (116). Sophomore Annalise Davis (3rd-19:41) led the team throughout the race by getting out quickly in the first mile and maintaining her position. The rest of the STMA pack came in shortly after with Mia Salas (11th-20:42), Paige McAloon (18th-21:02), Kaydan Geiger (21st-21:13), and Anna Belair (22-21:20).
Next week, the Lady Knights will be in action on Thursday once again. Runners will be heading to either the Rum River Invitational (Anoka High School) or to the Saint Francis Invitational (Ponds Golf Course).
